I'm totally with you on this, regarding my health stuff. The problem was, when it first happened, we didn't have insurance, except for the VA. And I was at my mom's out of the area. So, I was pretty much stuck with whatever they were willing to do for a while. But, my new doctor is a DO, rather than an MD (when I was in the military, I found that DO's were much more willing to consider complimentary medicine AND they are trained in doing chiropractic manipulation). As far as she is concerned, the Advair is a stop-gap so that I can breathe while we figure out what the underlying cause might be. Its probably allergies (I already have allergy problems, but they've normally been of the seasonal sort), but she's also concerned it might be auto-immune, since I have a number of auto-immune issues already, and a number of other auto-immune risk factors...so, its Advair for now so that I can function like a normal human being, and give myself some recovery time (not being able to breathe is exhausting!) while I wait for lab testing, and then its time for allergy testing.

You *can* get yarrow seeds, or probably plants...I really like Richters (they have about 9 varieties of yarrow, the one you are looking for is Achillea millefolium). They are really easy to grow, just give them love, water and sunshine, and be sure to pinch off the ends so they bush out rather than get all tall and weedy! Oh, and as long as you take off the flower tops and don't let the flowers go to seed, it will pretty much keep growing.

so many thoughts:
1 - keep up the read aloud - as a reading teacher (for dyslexic learners) i can tell you it's awesome for the kids (read above their reading level) to build vocabulary and writing & paragraphing skills. it's also great fun and a long lasting family tradition. i still read with my 15 year old son. it's special time.
2 - i have only vaguely heard of yarrow. i guess i could order seeds?
3 - ok - it's a little wierd to offer medical advice when i don't really know anything about you, but i've been resisting saying this for a while. from everything you're saying (respiratory issues to more general systemic issues) i wonder if you've consulted a holistic doctor. this may sound crazy to you, but you could have something like food allergies at the root of everything. i wonder if you've looked into anything like this? a pulminologist won't tell you this, but asthma can be associated with allergies. i only know anything about this because food allergies also affect the brain (learning disabilities) and a lot of my students' families (including me with my daughter) have treated a number of symptoms with diet modification instead of drugs. ok - probably too much info, but i can tell you've been struggling, so just offering another avenue to explore if you think it's worth it.
4 - good luck with Gray! i hope the introductions go well! :)

My mum used to read a chapter of a novel to us each night - even when we were teenagers. She'd sit in the hall outside our bedroom doors.
So glad to hear your medication is working better - it isn't nice when basic stuff like breathing is messed with.
Yarrow rocks! I remember using it as a gargle for a sore throat and wow!
Had to have a giggle at hamster name....OFG named his guinea pig "Pig". Kids have such an honest way of naming things lol
