lol!!! Oh yeah, I completely agree with you on #1 My mom used to call me in sick about once a month and we'd take our own field trips...which were much better than school field trips. During the summer she would hand me the ALA's banned book list and tell me to pick 10 books that I wouldn't ordinarily read. My worry for Chickadee is that she is such an auditory learner that she will have problems--she learns by making things into songs or drumming and dancing (we've learned about patterns by drumming and dancing) and putting on her own plays. We've been sitting down to do pencil and paper work now, to get her ready for school (I went to school with the intention of teaching before I joined the Navy and did some observing in a kindergarten classroom at the beginning of school) since it can be hard for them to learn to sit down and work.

Thanks on #2...except for my hand if I try to lift anything and some random soreness, I'm ok. I guess that, at least with #3, I don't have to worry about the shocked part...when I discovered Paganism (through Wicca) I was about 11, so I've seen how obnoxious kids can be...

i also have a "le sigh." i wrote this typically wordy and oh so clever comment and it disappeared. sigh. i will try to summarize: 1 - make sure your afterschool stuff has lots of play. public school kindergarten is way too disciplined, directed and academic (pencil to paper related). kids learn through play, play, play. 2 - sorry about the hand and the bum. i too have carpal tunnel and injured my hand over the weekend. so aggravating. 3 - charlotte, we had a similar experience. my daughter found herself in hostile waters when she let slip that she didn't believe in god as a man in the sky. she was told she was wrong, evil and going to hell by several different kids. i was shocked. it is so difficult for adults to walk this line between conviction and tolerance, it's even harder for kids. she still struggles with it. 4 - was there a 4? i can't remember :)

I totally agree with you! Its one of the things we know we are going to have to address living here, regardless of how we might choose to school the kids.

Le sigh (because sighing should always be done in fake French!
