I totally understand...the school year has left me busier too!

I agree...I wish there was a way to opt kids out of standardized testing, or at least out of classes that teach for tests. And that SOL's were treated as guideposts instead of goal lines. And that kids were taught by ability instead of age, in an environment where reaching goal lines on someone else's schedule wasn't as important as making it to those guideposts in a meaningful way. And that they are given time to be outside, time for unstructured play, time for experiental, hands-on learning. And...

...maybe I should just have a post about my dream school, lol!!

hey thalassa, long time no talk! Somehow the transition back to school has made me more busy instead of less! Anyway, i am so with you on this. education is so important to society--what could make that more clear than watching focus groups of undecided voters after the debates. Democracy in particular relies so heavily on consituents who have a clue...

my daughter has field day today. So bizarre - field day is supposed to be part of the end of year and welcome spring/summer celebrations. but they moved it from spring to fall so it won't interfere with SOLs. Ugh. so instead of 70 degrees and bright sunshine, it's overcast and misty and generally yucky outside. To make that worse, From 11-1 they will be taking a "break" from field day to do 2 hours of math to practice for some random standardized test they're taking on Tues. The schools (and ours in particular) just can't get it through their head the playing is learning.

wish i could have homeschooled too - but it wasn't right for our fam. (too long a story). sigh.
