Nightey-Night: Bedtime Prayers for Pagan Babies

Now I lay me down to sleep,
Please help me learn my world to keep.
To guard the air and shies of blue,
The oceans, lakes and rivers too.
Save the mighty forest lands,
The plains, the shores, the desert sands.
Protect all creatures, wild and free,
In air, on land, and in the sea.

Day is done, it’s time for bed
Goddess bless my sleepy head.
In the morning, when the sun does rise
God will bless my open eyes.
Day is done, it’s time for bed
Goddess bless my sleepy head.
In the morning, soft or bright
God will bless my heart with light.

As I lay snuggled in my bed,
Pillow tucked beneath my head,
Maiden, bring me joyful dreams.
Mother, bring me peace, serene.
Wisest Crone, watch over me,
Until the light of dawn I see.
Brightest Blessings!!!

From the east unto the West
The Sun has traveled and has blessed us
I give thanks to this day.
For every Rock and every Tree
from the Desert to the Sea
The Moon will glow to let us know
That blessed we will be.

(this can actually be sung to the tune of Rose, Rose, Rose, Rose for anyone that knows it)

Mother moon and Father Sun
Now our day is almost done
Watch over me here where I lie
From your home up in the sky
Free will for all and harm to none
As I have willed it; It shall be done.
And now its time for me to sleep
Sweet dreams for all and Blessed be.

Now I lay me down to rest
I pray that all the world be blessed
Lady Moon and Sister Star watch over me from afar
Mother Earth is always there
And keeps me safe within her care
The Lord of Dreams will dance and sing
And happy dreams to me will bring
And when I wake to greet the day
Brother Sun will light my way.

The earth is big and fat and round,
I love the sky, the sea and the ground,
I love the birds and dogs and sheep,
And all the animals that fall asleep,
I love the flowers and rocks and trees,
I love the earth, and it loves me.

Now I lay down in my bed,
And pull the covers up to my head.
I’ll dream of dragons and fairies bright,
And pixies and wizards and elves tonight.
I’ll dream of some sort of magical place, and
Wake in the morning with a smile on my face.

These are so adorable! Did you make them all up yourself?

No, I can’t claim that…only one of them is mine. I’ve been collecting them for awhile, but unfortunately most of them have been promulgated around the net for so long that I don’t even know of anyway to figure out who wrote them.

That’s the best collection I’ve seen so far. We already use a few of those nightly and my kids just LOVE them.
    Thanks for sharing.

  3. These are nice bedtime prayers, i really like them. Here are some that I have found, that you did not have.
    Goddess Bedtime Prayer:
1.Mother of all things, watch over me tonight,
Hold me in your arms, until the morning light.

2.Blessed be the mother goddess, by all her many names.
May she bless my family and friends.
May she bless the animals of the world, and all the people everywhere.

    3.Diana, goddess of the moon,
    Shining in the sky above,
Bathe me in your magical light,
And protect me with your love.

    God Prayers:
1.The horned god runs in the night,
    And hunts among the stars,
May he watch over and keep us safe,
    No matter where we are.

2.Lord of night, welcome me as I sleep,
Guide me in the darkness, and protect me as I dream.

    A Psalm for Gaia:
The Earth is my mother, I shall not want.
She nurtures me in green pastures; she freshens me with flowing waters.
She restores my body and awakens my soul.
Although I walk in the shadow of changing seasons and passing time,
I will not fear death, for the essence of life is within me, the peace and beauty of Earth comfort me.
She teaches me to harvest her abundant gifts, she fills my heart with compassion,I drink from the cup of simple pleasures.
As I look to the skies with wonder at the immensity universe, I know I am blessed beyond measure to live all the days of my life, in the bountiful house of Gaia.

  4. now i lay me down to rest
    goddess guard my little nest
like the wee bird in the tree
    dearest goddess care for me
    above below and round about
    keep all evil spirits out
bless those i love and bless me too
    dearest goddess i love you
    blessed be

Of nature, and faeries, and magickal things
Now I lay my head to rest
    Knowing I am truly blessed

    Blessed Be!

Its alright, and thank you for your contribution!!

      • You’re welcome! 🙂 I don’t often write stuff about the Goddess, since I’m not a Wiccan, Pagan, or combination of the two, but hailing to my roots is a very positive thing. I say I’m an Atheist, mostly because I have no wish to pray, but She will always have Her place in my heart and home.

Here’s one I made up for my oldest:

Goddess of the Moon so Bright
protect me with your Silver light
    guide me into peaceful dreams
Of Nature and Faeries and magickal things
Now I can lay my head to rest
    knowing I am truly blessed
In perfect love and perfect trust,
    BLESSED BE

  9. This is one that is also a hymn almost. Its one my father taught me (thank the Gods he raise me Pagan ^_^)
May the Fire of my hearth
Warm the Water of my blood
And the the Earth of my skin
And the Air that fills my lungs
    Goddess bless my singing Spirit
    And all that I love

These are delightful yet filled with magic and power. Little spells to protect our children have been around forever, but rarely have I found any this sweet and enduring. I’d love it if our great grandchildren are still saying these in their beds.
    Thank you for sharing,
    And as always,
    Blessed Be,
    Lady Anna
